36 students of class havo H5Tt and V5AT hosted 34 students from Germany (Reutlingen) and Poland (Swietochlowice). This was a returning moment. Our students visited Poland and Germany in April last year. The Meergronden hosts exchange weeks every year.
During this week students follow a cultural programme which is organised by the hosting country. The main objective is to learn to communicate in English and learning about other cultures. Because students are hosting a foreign guest they realy have to take care of the other student. This way parents participate aswell. Some families go on trips with the guest students and show them Holland.
The programme organised by our schools contains a variety of activities like art workshops; dance, drama, rap and drums. In these workshops students prepare a performance for the final evening on Friday. Next to that there is a country carrousel in which the teachers from Poland, Germany and Holland conduct a language- and culture class. There are sport-activities; climbing in climb-hall Bussum, and cooperation games in the gym. Another highlight in the school-activities was the painting project. Students had to paint their picture in a traditional Dutch ‘delftsblauw-tegeltjes’ pattern. Thanks to art teachers Kim and Trudie and Madeleine who did a lot of work to prepare this project. The results will be shown in one of the corridors in school.
On the Wednesday our foreign guests visited Amsterdam where they experienced a tour through the Rijksmuseum and the Palace on Dam Square. On the Friday all students went to Utrecht and were treated to a canal tour and some free time.
Friday evening was the final evening during which the results were shown of the art workshops drums, dance, drama and rap. The participating countries also showed a national act. Parents were invited to see the results. The school wants to express their gratitude for the parents ‘ hospitality.
We are already looking forward to next year’s exchange!
